Goat Study
Hi mamas,
Through our Goat Study, students are diving into the fascinating world of goats!
Students learned that goats are foragers, meaning they search for and gather their own food. From grass and leaves to tree bark and even poison ivy, goats have some very interesting favorite snacks!
They also discovered that Nigerian Dwarf goats are known for their incredible milk production and can provide milk that is used to make cheese, butter, ice cream, lotion, skincare products, and even soap—which our students are making in class!
Students explored how goats are ruminants with specialized digestive systems and learned how salt blocks help support healthy muscles, nerves, digestion, hydration, and milk production.

K-1st ClassroomGoat Learning
Hi mamas,
Through our Goat Study, our first grade friends are discovering some amazing facts about Nigerian Dwarf goats!
Students learned that these small but mighty dairy goats can produce large amounts of milk, which can be used to make delicious treats like ice cream.
They also discovered how goats help protect our environment through goatscaping, clearing vegetation that could fuel wildfires.
Along the way, students learned fun goat vocabulary, including doe, buck, kid, and kidding, while discovering some of goats’ favorite foods—including rose thorns and poison ivy!

Pre-k Classroom Goat Learning
Hi mamas,
Our Pre-K friends are having so much fun learning all about goats!
Through imaginative play, students acted out the digestive journey of a goat, discovering how food travels through four stomachs.
From chewing tree bark to regurgitating and chewing cud, students explored how goats use their unique digestive systems to break down food and absorb nutrients.
Learning through movement, laughter, and hands-on experiences makes these lessons unforgettable!
Kinder Outdoor Interview
Hi mamas,
Our kindergarten friends had a wonderful day learning with our goats!
Students observed baby goats drinking their mother’s milk and discovered that a mama goat is called a doe, a baby boy is called a buckling, and a baby girl is called a doeling.
From watching how baby kid goats headbutt their mama’s udder to help the milk drop during nursing, to gently brushing and grooming the baby kids, kinder students experienced firsthand what life is like on a farm!

First Grade Goat Learning
Hi mamas,
Through our Goat Study, our first grade friends are discovering how amazing a goat’s digestive system can be!
Students learned that goats are ruminants with four-chambered stomachs and explored other animals that share this unique trait, including sheep, cows, deer, and giraffes.
By acting out the digestion process, students followed the journey from grass and bark to cud, learning how goats chew their food more than once to help break it down for proper digestion through all four stomach chambers!

Goat Milking Intro
Hi mamas,
We are SO excited for Goat Milking Week here in The Little Red Schoolhouse!
Students are going to step into the role of farmers as they learn how to milk goats using a milking stanchion and discover the many benefits of goat’s milk.
Along the way, they will make homemade goat’s milk ice cream, create goat’s milk soap, sample goat cheeses, and learn how goat’s milk compares to cow’s milk.
We are so excited to bring this learning to life through hands-on experiences that students will remember for years to come!

Upper Grades Goat Milking
Hi mamas,
Our 2nd–8th grade students are stepping into the role of farmers through our Goat Study!
Students learned the proper technique for milking a goat, practicing how to pinch firmly and squeeze downward to collect fresh goat’s milk.
Although many students found it difficult at first, they quickly got the hang of it and described the experience as fun, unique, and something they’ll never forget!

Kinder Goat Milking
Hi mamas,
Learning about goats has never been more hands-on!
Our kinder students learned how to prepare a goat for milking before taking turns using their “pinching crab grip” to milk the goats themselves.
As students practiced moving their fingers down and squeezing firmly, they were amazed to see the milk come out and thought the experience was incredibly cool!

Pre-k Goat Milking
Hi mamas,
Our Pre-K friends are stepping into the role of farmers through our Goat Study!
Students learned how to prepare a goat for milking by carefully cleaning and drying the udder before taking turns milking.
Using their “pinching crab grip,” students practiced the proper technique and discovered how a firm squeeze helps the milk flow.
The students thought milking the goats was such a fun and memorable experience!

Goat’s Cheese Taste Test
Hi mamas,
Learning about goats has never been more delicious!
As part of our Goat Study students are tasting all things from a goat! First up, goat cheese!
Students sampled a variety of goat cheeses, including blueberry vanilla goat cheese, mozzarella, and pepper jack, paired with almond crackers.
As they shared their opinions and compared flavors, students discovered new favorites while practicing the important skill of trying something new. Some loved the cheese, while others decided it wasn’t their favorite—but everyone gave it a try!
Homemade Goat’s Milk Icecream Tastings
Hi mamas,
Learning about goats has never been sweeter!
We used fresh goats’ milk to make homemade chocolate and vanilla goats’ milk ice cream in class! We even picked edible flowers from our garden to use as garnish and topped it with sprinkles!
Students used their best adjectives to describe their ice cream taste test, from “delicious” to “really good,” “creamy,” “cold,” and “sweet.” All the students agreed that our homemade ice cream tasted like professional ice cream from an ice cream shop. Many students couldn’t believe it was made with goats’ milk!
These multi-sensory experiences help students connect classroom learning to real life in memorable ways, making learning come to life!
Goat’s Milk Tastings
Hi mamas,
Learning about goats has never been more hands-on!
Students had the chance to milk our goats and then taste fresh goat milk for themselves. Many described milking as fun, exciting, and a unique experience they will never forget!
As they sampled the milk, students shared their observations and opinions. Some loved it, some didn’t, and a few noticed that it had a smell that reminded them of a goat!
These real-life experiences help students build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Goat’s Milk Soap Making
Hi mamas,
Through our Goat Study, our students are discovering the many amazing products that can be made from fresh goat’s milk!
Students learned how to make beautiful goat milk soap bars by cutting solidified goat’s milk and glycerin into small cubes so they would melt evenly.
We then added lavender, eucalyptus, dried flowers, and essential oils to create their own custom soap bars for tubby time!
