Goat Kidding Journey
Hi mamas,
Our due date count down 📆with Miss Hazel our pregnant mama doe! We are getting ready for kidding and the students can’t wait! ❤️🐐
After a 155 day countdown, mama goat Hazel went into labor just as my students were arriving, and I assisted her in delivering THE CUTEST baby kid I’ve ever seen. We are SO proud! ❤️🐐
This was such a ✨magical and memorable experience for both myself as well as my students! The ultimate animal life cycle project for all of us! ✨
Tuesday students were able to see the baby kid goat covered in the amniotic sac, as I cleared baby’s nostrils and took a warm towel to clean him up, take care of the umbilical cord, and handle post Labor & delivery care for mama & baby!
Truly a ✨magical memory we will hold in our hearts forever! Hands on learning at its best! ✨
Looking forward to our students having lots of experiences with our new baby kid! ❤️🐐
My students and their mamas assisted as “midwives” during the birth in handing me hot water, molasses, dental floss, towels etc.
I was all set to tie the umbilical cord off with dental floss as a means to cut the umbilical cord, but it tore off on its own naturally before I could.
I used veterinarian grade Betadine to sterilize the umbilical site on our new baby kid. Something that you need to do 2 to 3 times per day for the first week of life.
Next, I offered our exhausted mama Hazel warm water with molasses post delivery for energy, and Timothy hay and grain for fuel. ❤️🐐
